After careful stewardship of donations and regular income the camp has been able to renovate another set of dorm bathrooms. Now all of the large dorm bathrooms are complete.
We used the winter break again and everything went according to schedule. As a result of another generous donation by members of the community the camp has been able to renovate another set of bathrooms. This time for the kitchen dorm and small team room adjacent to it.
Once again this work was done during the winter break and we used all of the time we had. Paint was still drying as the first team for the year started setting up for a weekend. We copied the work done for the previous dorm bathrooms so this will be familiar to recent visitors to the camp. This is another step towards maintaining a safe and reliable camp for community members now and well into the future. Prior to COVID in the summer of 2019 the Camp organized a fundraiser to raise money specifically to renovate the candidate rooms.
It was a beautiful opportunity for the various communities the Camp serves to come together in fellowship to enjoy a dinner together while raising funds for the camp. It was successful in both community building and raising funds. Along with the funds raised, members of the community donated time and materials to the work effort. During the winter break after the scheduled weekends we were able to complete the work. The bathrooms were completely demolished and rebuilt from the ground up and the studs out. This includes new shower stalls using a solid molded form that should be easy to keep clean, resistant to leaks, and able to serve our candidates for many years to come. The cracked tiles in those bathrooms are now a thing of the past that long serving members of the community can regal the newer members with. Unfortunately, only a few weekends were able to use the renovated rooms. As we open back for weekends hopefully everyone will be able to see the changes in person but until we can see each other on the mountain you can get some idea of the work done below. The dining room underwent a very noticeable facelift, thanks to the North Georgia Tres Dias Community. The linoleum floor was updated to a modern wood patterned vinyl plank material that was a major aesthetic upgrade. The dining room received a fresh coat of paint and trim color, and the metal beams were boxed in with custom woodwork. This same woodwork was mimicked in new doors and a new podium. Eight new remote-controlled LED lit fans were installed, as well as all new electrical switches and outlets throughout. The room looks incredible. |
